– Planning For Your Arrival To Wisconsin Dells –

2019 U.S. Holidays:
May 27, 2019 – Memorial Day
September 2, 2019 – Labor Day
May 17th – 19th, 2019 – Custom Car Show Event

Traveling on or around these dates will be more expensive and availability will be limited.

The contract you signed with your start date and end date are the dates you should be at work. Do not purchase travel tickets earlier than your last day of work.

Most students arrive at the Chicago airport. You will need to take a bus or train to “The Dells”.

You may arrive 1 day prior to your start date. But NO later than 5 days from your start date.

– Once You Arrive In “The Dells”

DO NOT PLAN TO ARRIVE ON

The next morning you MUST report to Human Resources at 8:00 am SHARP with ALL (passport, DS2019, SS card (if you have one) of your original documents.  Be sure you know your room number. We will then begin your new hire paperwork and orientation. We will also schedule you for a time to meet with the bank to open a bank account.

Arrivals after 5:00 pm (Monday – Friday)

If you are living at Hiawatha, have a taxi take you directly to Hiawatha. If you are assigned to Top Secret Housing, have a taxi take you directly to Mt. Olympus Building 39. Check in if there is vacancy in the hotel for one night cost is $11. Provide them with your DS and other required documents. If there is no vacancy you will have to find your own accommodations. The next morning you MUST report to Human Resources at 9:30 am SHARP.  HR is closed on Sunday.  This is why Monday – Friday day time arrivals are VERY important!

POSTAL CODE

When you arrive at Mt Olympus, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you know your correct HOME mailing address, including the POSTAL CODE of your country.

Be very careful with all of your travel documents.  You must have your Passport, Visa,

No Arrivals On Saturday Or Sunday

Traveling to Wisconsin Dells:

It isn’t easy to get to Wisconsin Dells. Because our town is small, there are only two buses and one train that arrive daily from Chicago. Here are some travel suggestions that should make it a little easier for you.

We suggest you to fly into Chicago, Madison, or Milwaukee. Most international students fly into Chicago O’Hare International Airport and take the “L” train to the Greyhound Bus Station or Amtrak Train Station and take the bus or train to Wisconsin Dells.

If you arrive in Milwaukee (General Mitchell International Airport), check the Greyhound Bus schedule for their departures to Wisconsin Dells … the bus stop is right at the airport.

Although Madison is the closest city, you still have to take a bus from Madison to Wisconsin Dells so it’s easier and less expensive to take the bus from Chicago. If you arrive in Madison, taking a taxi from there to the Dells is also an option, but it’s expensive if you are traveling alone.

Check your arrival time because many flights arrive AFTER the last bus or train leaves for “The Dells”  and, if that happens, you may have to spend the night in Chicago, Madison, or Milwaukee.

For information regarding hostels in the Chicago area, go to: www.hiayh.org or http://www.hostels.com.  AGAIN … check your arrival time.  If you arrive too late to make a connection and you don’t want to spend the money for a hotel room, the airport is a relatively safe place to stay.  Find a comfortable seat and sleep there.

DO NOT stay overnight at the bus or train stations … they may not be safe.

To Get To The Bus Or Train Stations In Chicago:

Take the L train from Chicago O’Hare Airport. Have $2.25 (or more) in U.S. coins.

To find where the Blue Line is, look for signs or ask at an information stand. The “L” (or EL) Trains (Blue Line Trains) serve O’Hare Airport 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Trains operate every few minutes during the day and every 15-30 minutes overnight. Take the CTA blue line to the Clinton Street drop off (approximately 50 minutes).  Get off the train and exit the station. Walk one block south on Clinton Street to Harrison Street. Go right on Harrison Street. The Downtown Chicago Greyhound Bus Station will be one block ahead at 630 West Harrison Street. The CTA blue line will also take you to the Amtrak Train Station which is located at the corner of Canal and Jackson Streets. The bus and train stations are only a couple blocks apart. You could also take a taxi from the airport, but this would cost you about $40.

Greyhound Bus: Schedules change so look for current schedules and prices at: www.greyhound.com

Amtrak Train: Schedules change so get current schedules and prices at: www.amtrak.com

BE SURE TO CHECK THE DEPARTURE TIMES, BUSES AND TRAINS ARE OFTEN LATE.

– After Arrival –

Wisconsin Dells Taxi

Taxi Info:

There are several taxi companies in the Dells:
Kangaroo Taxi:  1-608-792-9214, www.wisconsindellsviptaxi.com
Wisconsin Dells Taxi: 1-608-253-7433, www.wisconsindellstaxi.com
“I like Mike”: [email protected] (Airport trips-pre arrange)

You may get a better price and better service if you notify them of your arrival with plenty of advance notice.  Here are some of the options they can offer you:

  • If you are a single or a group, they can pick you up in Madison (one hour away), Milwaukee (two hours away) or even at the airport in Chicago (three hours away).  You will be charged according to group size and distance/miles.  I don’t recommend these long-distance pick-ups for a single person because of the cost but if you are comfortable with the expense (usually $100 to $400 or more), it is an option. Larger groups can share the cost.
  • Taxis will also be available to take you to various locations in the Dells area for groceries, shopping, etc.

If you wait to call the taxi after you arrive in “The Dells”, the phone call will cost 50 cents or more so have some American coins with you when you arrive.  Sometimes the bus is late and the taxi can’t wait, just call again. Usually, there are taxis waiting at the bus or train depots so you may not have to call one.

– Information –

  • Try to travel with your friends in taxis to save money.
  • Settle into your housing, get some groceries if possible, get plenty of rest and prepare for you work week to start.  Remember to have all of your documents in once place in order to bring them to HR the next day (Monday -Friday at 8:00 am SHARP).
  • SEVIS – Please wait until you arrive at Mt. Olympus Human Resources before you check in with SEVIS or your sponsor. SEVIS requires you to add your room number to the address. You will not have this information until you arrive at Mt. Olympus Human Resources and are assigned to housing. If you do not have this information, this will cause problems and you may be denied a social security card.
